We’re excited to share this conversation with Violet Palmer, the trailblazing NBA referee. From growing up in Compton to becoming the first woman to officiate in the NBA, Violet shares how hard work, a positive attitude, and a team that believes in you can lead to opportunities you may have only dreamed of.

Tomorrow marks 29 years since Violet made history as an NBA referee on October 31, 1997. To celebrate, we’re inviting every RefReps class to watch her story.

The full interview is now available within the RefReps platform, complete with built-in assignments designed to help your students connect real-world officiating experiences to what they’re learning in class.

This video was made possible by Sports Officials Care, in partnership with RefReps and ESPN’s Take Back Sports. Thank you to everyone who helped bring you the view through the eyes of an official.
